Netapp Surpasses Milestone Of 5,000 Units Shipped

Customers Accelerate Adoption Of V-Series, Help Netapp Surpass Milestone Of 5,000 Units Shipped

V-Series Helps Customers Unify and Extend the Value of Existing Storage Investments with Improved Efficiency and Scalability

Auckland, NEW ZEALAND 15 April 2010 — Today’s economy is forcing organisations to tighten their IT budgets and determine the best pathways for consolidating their IT infrastructure. Consequently, storage is under the microscope as organisations decide how to get more value out of their existing storage architectures.

As a result, more customers are turning to NetApp® (NASDAQ: NTAP) V-Series to unify their non NetApp storage environments and achieve increased efficiencies, reduce costs, and improve data protection. Customers have made V-Series one of NetApp’s fastest growing products, with 70% year-over-year growth and more than 5,000 units now shipped.

NetApp V-Series is a heterogeneous storage solution that helps customers extend the value of their existing storage investments and take advantage of NetApp’s unified storage and data management capabilities in non NetApp environments. Corelio, Belgium’s largest newspaper publisher, transformed its primarily HP storage environment with NetApp V-Series to improve efficiencies, deliver continuous data availability for business-critical applications, and increase scalability and flexibility.

“As Corelio has grown over the years, we have had to identify new ways to streamline and improve our IT infrastructure,” said Jan Lafosse, Information Communications Technology manager for Corelio. “In looking specifically at our storage environment, we needed to make our data and applications available 24x7 while unifying our storage landscape to make it simpler and more efficient to manage. And we wanted to do all of this and still leverage our current storage investments.”

Corelio, with the help of NetApp value-added reseller Uptime Technologies, deployed NetApp V-Series at both its primary data centre and secondary metropolitan data centre. Corelio installed V-Series in front of approximately 46TB of usable HP storage capacity in its primary data centre to leverage NetApp’s integrated data protection, deduplication, and cloning technologies for improved disk utilisation and easier provisioning. Additionally, V-Series enabled Corelio to leverage NetApp’s multiprotocol support to improve flexibility and simplify management of its SAN and NAS environment.

Corelio also implemented NetApp MetroCluster software, which integrates synchronous mirroring with array-based clustering, on its V-Series solutions at both locations to meet its performance and continuous data avail¬ability requirements. In the event of a primary-site disaster, Corelio achieves immediate failover to its secondary data centre, protecting its valuable data while enabling the company to continue to serve the Belgian people who depend on it for their daily news and information.

“V-Series has really helped us take our storage infrastructure to the next level,” said Lafosse. “It has allowed us to maximise the efficiency and flexibility of our existing storage architecture and enabled us to provision capacity to where it’s needed, whether that is to file shares, databases, or to our VMware® environment. In fact, we can now provision our storage five times faster than before, and consolidating it allows us to manage more storage with fewer people.

“Furthermore, with MetroCluster we have experienced no storage-related downtime and no nonrecoverable data loss in the four years since we deployed the solution,” continued Lafosse. “While we don’t know exactly how our IT environment will grow in the future, V-Series has afforded us an infrastructure that can scale and evolve to meet our future business and IT needs.”

“With IT departments looking for new ways to reduce costs and simplify operations, V-Series is an ideal solution to help them maximise their existing storage investments while offering best-of-breed data protection,” said Patrick Rogers, vice president of Solutions and Alliances for NetApp. “V-Series provides customers a unique opportunity to unify and extend their non NetApp storage infrastructure with the multiple benefits of NetApp’s advanced storage and data management technologies. The product’s impressive growth numbers are proof that more and more customers recognise the value that V-Series delivers.”

NetApp V-Series is currently the industry’s only family of open storage controllers that provides customers with the ability to simultaneously manage SAN and NAS storage through one device, improving flexibility and simplifying administration. V-Series offers customers who demand more performance and value out of their existing storage infrastructure with an economical alternative to starting from scratch. With its unique ability to manage third-party storage arrays, V-Series provides customers with the full power of Data ONTAP®, including such technologies as deduplication and thin provisioning, to increase storage efficiencies and help improve data protection and management capabilities.
