Online Dating Risks Drive Clients To One-To-One Matchmaking Service
Outlandish and false promises, profiles that don’t match and incorrect ages are just some of the online dating issues that have been faced online by clients who have tried online dating but who now seek the security of a personal dating service with of Wellington’s one-to-one dating service, Matchcompany.co.nz.

“Online dating has grown hugely and offers great advantages for people seeking a partner,” Rosie says, “but it also has problems and potential risks that some people simply find too much to deal with when trying to find the ideal partner.”
She says the most common problem clients have found online is false promises or ‘facts’ that prove to be untrue. Asked about the loss of nearly $7000 by Christchurch woman Michelle Summers, who had been communicating with the alleged Swedish engineer online for some weeks, Rosie said such tales were all too frequent from people who had come to her.
This week there was the report of a New York man who swindled over $200,000 from a woman he met online.
“We may be a little less convenient than the Net, but we get to know our clients and screen everyone to make dating and matching as safe and certain as we can,” said Rosie.
“One of the major problems with online dating is that it’s too easy and so there are so many false identities or false facts circulating about prospective partners. We also find a lot of people coming to us who want something more discrete.”
And the proof’s in the dating pudding. Last year Matchcompany.co.nz saw a number of matched couples settle into permanent relationships, including a couple of weddings.
“It really makes it all worthwhile,” said Rosie.
