Top Bloggers Make Their Predictions For 2010
Wellington, January 25, 2010 -- Some of the Capital’s top bloggers are busy gazing into the crystal ball as they prepare to come up with their
much-anticipated forecasts for 2010 at Unlimited Potential’s Blogger’s PredICT later this week.
Strictly tongue-in-cheek, this fun-filled event promises to enrage, enthral and entertain as five bloggers vie for the
title of Unlimited Potential Visionary of the Year.
“Unlimited Potential is very excited to once again bring one of cornerstone IT events to the Capital City, drawing a
diverse and interactive audience and set to be more interactive this year with the introduction of a live Twitter poll,”
says Tom Reidy, Chairman of Unlimited Potential.
He says the audience can expect some inspiring, enlightening and unusual predictions for 2010, which promises to be a
fantastic year for the IT and web industry.
Held annually for the ICT community to celebrate the New Year and attracting many bloggers and fans alike, this year’s
Blogger’s PredICT is fully booked.
Blogger’s PredICT starts at 5.30pm on Thursday, January 28, at the Wellington Regional Chamber of Commerce, Level 28,
Majestic Centre. The audience will hear predictions about the worlds of the Internet, business & technology, gadgets & games as well as in an ‘open slather’ category of ‘Wellington, New Zealand and the Universe’.
This year’s line-up features some of Wellington’s most popular bloggers. Their combined passions, interests and
expertise cover a wide spectrum of blogging topics: from Wellington itself, coffee, partying and beauty to gadgets, web
design, micro-blogging, web publishing, open source and mobile technology. The bloggers are:
• Brenda Wallace: Last year’s Unlimited Potential Visionary of the Year. Can she defend her title in 2010? The Capital’s
‘coffee geek girl extraordinaire’ (http://coffee.geek.nz) and queen bee of the software community, Brenda creates a buzz
around mobile technology and open source.
• Philip Fierlinger: From Silicon Valley to Silicon Welly, Philip’s web design expertise is eagerly sought after by
online businesses and conference-goers alike. Currently design chief at Xero, and blogger at Turntable Media (http://turntablemedia.com/blog/), Philip’s passion for web usability also led him to establish his own consultancy.
• Mauricio Freitas: Possibly Wellington’s most avid ‘Tweeter’, Mauricio is the opinionated ‘Family Guy’ who loves food,
coffee and technology. The Geekzone (http://www.geekzone.co.nz) ‘el Presidente' and micro-blogging enthusiast
(@freitasm) is progressively working his way through every (good) cafe in town. • Miraz Jordan: From writing about
MacTips to community IT, Miraz must surely be one of Wellington’s most prolific tech bloggers and professional web
content authors. From Bach to Buying a Car to Battlestar Galactica, Miraz shares the full gamut of cultural experiences
at KnowIt, (http://knowit.co.nz).
• Joanna McLeod: Editor of The Wellingtonista (http://wellingtonista.com/),
THE blog about Wellington, Joanna has started calling herself the Empress of the Internet because she can. Other parts of
her media empire include her beauty blog PrettyPrettyPretty, (http://prettyprettypretty.com) and her guide to partying, You Are So Entertaining, (http://youaresoentertaining.com/).
In true social media style and for the first time this year, the winner of the Unlimited Potential Visionary of the Year
title will be voted in via a live Twitter poll. Members of the audience will cast their votes on either their own
Twitter-enabled mobile phones or on the laptops provided.
The winner receives an official certificate, a beautiful tiara and full bragging rights, at least until next year’s
Blogger’s PredICT.
