Dr Shiv Chopra

Renowned scientist and Canadian whistleblower Dr Shiv Chopra will talk on the decisions, dilemmas and moral and ethical predicaments that face government regulators, balancing drug company designs and public safety implications.

Dr Shiv Chopra worked for Health Canada for 35 years examining food and drugs before their release onto the market. However he lost his job when he and his colleagues refused to approve drugs of questionable safety intended for food production.

Due to Dr. Chopra's work, Bovine Growth Hormone was barred in Canada in 1999 and in the EU.

He will speak on the questionable safety of hormones, antibiotics, genetically modified organisms (GMO's) and pesticides in our food chain.

He is the author of numerous publications on science, society and religion.

His book - “CORRUPT TO THE CORE: Memoirs of a Health Canada Whistleblower on Food security” is presently number one issue throughout the world. The most essential point is that it is being compromised due to transnational corporate lobbies to approve untested commodities, such as GMO’s and other products, to increase profits. While making profit is not an unworthy goal, per se, but if it compromises public health and public interest it requires caution by the relevant governments.

His academic qualifications include graduation in Veterinary Medicine and M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Microbiology. He is the recipient of numerous academic awards, including a Fellowship of the World Health Organisation.
