Navman S-Series Platinum Delivers A New Benchmark In GPS

It may look sleek, sexy and light enough to slip into a briefcase or handbag, but the brand new Navman S-Series Platinum packs a punch so hard it will set new standards for GPS in New Zealand and around the world. As the name suggests, the Platinum range delivers clever and useful features that will change the way we navigate and drive.

Available from late October 2008, the Navman S-Series Platinum is incredibly slim at only 13.5mm with a brushed metal cased GPS unit. However, it’s the scrollable “glide” touch screen and a new intelligent search and interface which really impresses. Designed by Navman’s world leading software development team based here in New Zealand, this software is going to set the global industry alight.

“Navman invests heavily in research and development to create GPS units that are continually two steps ahead of the market,” says Wendy Hammond, Navman Marketing Director. “At the end of the day, it’s about developing smart new technologies that are simple to use and make the lives of our customers easier.”

The new S-Series Platinum Navman has three key areas; “go” for regular navigation instructions like putting in an address; “find” to search for specific places, areas or businesses; and “explore” that enables you to search an area in greater detail,

“Navman is about much more than just telling people when to turn left and right, it’s about making it easier for people to find where they want to go, to help them get there safely and then enable them to explore more about their destination,” continues Wendy.

The new range is not just for motorists – as a pedestrian, you can take it out of your car and carry it with you. Simply change the mode to “pedestrian” and you get directions for traveling on foot – for example, motorways, turn restrictions, one-ways and blocked passage restrictions are ignored. If a route is longer than 10 kilometres, a warning is given The Platinum range also has a ‘petrol efficiency’ mode that gives directions that avoid “stop-start” driving, unsealed roads and roundabouts. This all helps reduce petrol consumption by keeping speeds constant.

It also has spoken street names and places in local New Zealand phonetic language which assures high quality pronunciation of our local areas and street names.

The new Navman S-Series Platinum range has new mapping data from New Zealand’s leading provider Geosmart. This is the highest quality map information, providing 98 per cent coverage of New Zealand.

Another useful enhancement for drivers all over New Zealand is the safety alerts that have been built into the Platinum range. The unit warns drivers as they approach fixed speed and red light cameras.

The offering from Navman doesn’t end with the Platinum range. Navman has extended their highly successful classic S – series. The new S35 will be launched with the platinum range offering customers a smart easy to use unit at the entry level.

The S35 has spoken street names, latest New Zealand maps, and an easy to use interface. The S35 will be launched at $349 (RRP).
