Immunologists unite in the fight against disease

Immunologists unite in the fight against disease

Today leading immunologists from across the country will meet at Victoria University, Wellington.

Hosted by the University of Otago, the University of Auckland, Victoria University and the Malaghan Institute of Medical Research, the goal of this two day meeting of the New Zealand branch of the Australasian Society for Immunology, is to develop collaborative and integrated immune-based research strategies that can be used to improve health and treat diseases of particular importance to New Zealanders.

“By working together and sharing research discoveries, New Zealand scientists will be better equipped to develop effective and practical means of protecting future generations from diseases such as tuberculosis, cancer and asthma,” said Dr Joanna Kirman, conference organiser and Head of the Malaghan Institute Infectious Diseases research group.

The meeting will feature three international keynote speakers that are world-renowned leaders in their respective fields: Prof Marc Jenkins from the University of Minnesota, USA; Dr Bernadette Saunders, from the Centenary Institute, Sydney, Australia; and Dr Stuart Tangye, from the Garvan Institute, Sydney, Australia.

The meeting is sponsored by BioRad, Abacus ALS, Becton Dickinson, Pharmaco and Invitrogen.
