Hollywood recognises NZ sound production invention

MEDIA RELEASE 31 October 2007

Hollywood recognition for NZ sound post-production invention

VoiceQ, a New Zealand-patented software solution for dubbing voices onto films and television programmes, has been awarded special recognition in the 2007 Hollywood Post Alliance Engineering Excellence Awards.

The judges were so impressed by VoiceQ that a special award was created for it, titled Special Recognition for Engineering Excellence in Motion Picture Post.

VoiceQ was nominated by Derek Casari, Networking and Systems Engineering, Post Production of Fox Studios, who had been impressed by it in trials.

Award-winner Rhonda Kite will travel to Los Angeles to receive the award at the Los Angeles ceremony on November 1. Kite invented and developed the software through KIWA International, of which she is founder and CEO.

VoiceQ is a translation and cueing software solution for ADR (automated dialogue replacement) and dubbing of film and television projects which streamlines the process of replacing dialogue on moving images. It arose from the company’s work in dubbing Maori-language voices onto overseas animated programmes for Maori Television Service’s children’s broadcasts. Kite says: “I am delighted to receive this recognition on behalf of our international team. To be acknowledged by our Hollywood colleagues and peers in this way adds credibility for our suite of products.”

The Hollywood Post Alliance Awards acknowledge creative and technical excellence on the art, science and craft of post-production.

The Hollywood Post Alliance represents the professional community of businesses and individuals who provide expertise, support, tools and the infrastructure for the creation and finishing of motion pictures, television, commercials, digital media and other dynamic media content.
