Jade Extends Reach to Windows Mobile Devices

Jade Extends Reach to Windows Mobile Devices

Christchurch, New Zealand, 29 October – Jade Software Corporation (Jade) today announced the release of JADE 6.2, the latest version of its software platform for delivering targeted solutions to complex business problems. The release includes a Compact JADE edition that further extends JADE’s reach by enabling thin clients and standalone database applications to run on Windows Mobile devices.

Dean Cooper, JADE Program Manager says, “Providing Windows Mobile support has really been driven by customer opportunities, particularly in our logistics line of business and from our Jade Partners. More and more people want to access their systems from mobile devices. Not only from smart phones and PDAs, but also from cargo handling machinery and industrial hand-held devices.”

Jade customers have already deployed applications using the Compact JADE technology.

English Welsh and Scottish Railway (EWS) are currently extending their mission-critical JADE systems to be available to mobile staff such as train drivers. Using the Compact JADE Thin Client they were able to build a real-time train inquiry application running on a Windows Mobile device in a matter of days.

Dave Fidal, EWS' Operations Systems Portfolio Manager says, “Improving productivity through mobile technology is one of the next ‘big things’ for EWS. The fact that we were able to develop a real-time mobile application so quickly shows the power of the Compact JADE Thin Client when placed alongside the open architecture enabled by our main systems.”

In Poland, a newly-built deep-water container port running the Jade Master Terminal (JMT) Operating System is using Compact JADE Thin Clients for gate entry processing and vehicle-mounted applications running in both large container cranes and rubber-tyre gantry cranes.

Dave Quennell, JMT Program Manager says, “Our system manages all of the container movements in the terminal and the mobile applications are essential to do this. As containers are loaded or discharged from ships, machine operators can verify data online in the system. This data is then aggregated with RFID and GPS information via Compact JADE Thin Clients to manage the entire loading and discharge process.”

The ability to invoke web services enables Compact JADE applications to interoperate with other systems, both JADE and non-JADE. To encourage the adoption of standalone Compact JADE applications in particular, Jade is offering standalone Compact JADE licenses free-of-charge.

JADE 6.2 for Windows, Linux and Windows Mobile is available for free download at www.jadeworld.com/jade. Production systems for commercial use must be licensed separately.

ABOUT THE JADE TECHNOLOGY

JADE allows developers to easily build intricate, real-world business models without being constrained by the mechanics of storing and traversing data. JADE entirely eliminates the development effort required to move complex, interconnected object structures to and from a database, often referred to as impedance mismatch. This makes developers more productive. Coupled with a flexible distributed processing model, JADE is ideal for solving complex problems. With JADE, developers can easily build and run distributes systems that take advantage of modern, high performance hardware platforms.
