Novell Helps Customers Transform Their Data Centres With New Management Solutions
Improved feature set simplifies virtual machine lifecycle management and streamlines data centre automation
Auckland – 7 August 2007 – Novell today announced the latest versions of its data centre management solutions that help
customers realise the value of their physical and virtual data centre resources. This release increases the flexibility
of the Novell® ZENworks® management solution through a modular approach that allows the high-level orchestration engine,
which allocates overall data centre resources to be installed and run separately from more specialised management
components, including virtual machine management.
Full-lifecycle management for SUSE® Linux Enterprise from Novell running Xen* virtualisation is also available with this
version. These enhancements give customers the ability to leverage virtualisation in the data centre while helping them
lower costs, reduce complexity and mitigate risks in their IT infrastructure.
“Effective virtualisation management is a mandatory component of any virtualisation strategy,” said Mark Bowker, analyst
at Enterprise Strategy Group. “IT administrators want a management tool that is not bound by the physical
infrastructure, leverages existing investments, and works in a heterogeneous environment. Novell's ability to manage
physical and virtual resources in a single solution demonstrates its commitment to enabling customers to rapidly deploy
a virtualised infrastructure.”
Data centre management solutions from Novell are a cross-platform set of ITIL**-based services that orchestrate IT
management and business processes. This release of ZENworks Orchestrator includes a more intuitive user interface and
easier-to-use tools that reduce complexity, raising the standard for data centre management. Additionally, to help IT
administrators control and manage virtual machine proliferation, enhanced full-lifecycle management capabilities provide
image creation and warehousing for Xen Linux* virtual machines.
“To realise the promises of virtualisation, organisations must have management tools that automate and simplify the
operation of the data centre,” said Joe Wagner, senior vice president and general manager of systems and resource
management at Novell.
“The latest versions of Novell ZENworks Orchestrator and Novell ZENworks Virtual Machine Management make it easy for our
customers to manage both physical and virtual heterogeneous environments, while lowering their costs and reducing the
risks associated with dynamic virtualised environments.”
This version streamlines implementations and gives customers and partners the flexibility to choose which management
tools to deploy in the data centre. It does this by separating the previously bundled ZENworks Orchestrator from
management packs, such as ZENworks Virtual Machine Management.
Novell ZENworks Orchestrator and Novell ZENworks Virtual Machine Management are generally available today to customers
worldwide.
