Part of Colonial Knob Walkway closed while slip cleared
Part of the Colonial Knob Walkway at Porirua has been closed to enable the clearance of a slip which came down on the track during heavy rain last November.
The affected area, on private land, extends from the Porirua Scenic Reserve Junction/Farm Track junction down to the next junction where the Farm Road meets the track coming up from the top reservoir.
It was expected to take about a week and a half to remove the slip and stabilise the bank, Department of Conservation visitor assets ranger, Jason Christensen said.
“With heavy machinery being used in the area, we have closed the track to the public in the interests of public safety.”
People can still access a round trip by either walking up through Colonial Knob Scenic Reserve and exiting via Porirua Scenic Reserve at Camp Elsdon (Porirua City Council) or vice versa.
“We remind the public that dogs, mountain bikes and motor bikes are not permitted on the walkway, including the private land that the walkway passes through. People also need to take their rubbish with them when they leave the reserve,” Mr Christensen said.
