NZ-based Celsias climate change blog among most popular in world

New Zealand-based global warming blog, www.celsias.com/blog, has zoomed from obscurity to the top 0.1% of worldwide blogs, according to the blog-ranking organization, Technorati. And it has done it in less than eight weeks.

Over 9,000 visitors came to the Celsias Blog in January, up from 290 in November 2006 when it came online.

"The Celsias Blog offers you practical information, considered opinion and inspiration if you want to help save our planet from the ravages of climate change," says Celsias' Wellington-based CEO, Nick Lewis. "It is a worthwhile online destination if you have any curiosity about global warming. We offer both sides of any argument because we want to inform you so that you can decide for yourself where your views lie."

The Celsias blog has achieved an impressive Technorati ranking of 39,610 (out of 55 million blogs that Technorati monitors) with 392 links from 88 blogs. As such, it is rapidly becoming an online authority, and is tapping into and providing a valuable service to those readers interested in the long-term health of the planet. Visitors can read interesting posts, view videos, and even submit their own posts.

"I believe it is our educational, no-nonsense and non-partisan approach that has generated the worldwide interest in the blog. We are now seeing regular readers from over 50 countries, with most interest coming out of the US, Canada, Europe and Australasia," says Craig Mackintosh, the Celsias Blog's full-time editor and lead writer.

The Celsias Blog tackles all things global warming, spiced with posts about sustainability, corporate responsibility and touching personal stories. It is not afraid to challenge conventional thinking; for example, one recent post http://www.celsias.com/blog/2007/01/04/getting-wiser-with-wind provided a balanced analysis of the significant growth in wind generation, prompting many readers to comment (for and against). Similarly, another article on bio-fuels http://www.celsias.com/blog/2006/12/29/biofuels-from-the-frying-pan-into-the-fire generated responses from laypersons and scientists who regularly read the Celsias blog.

Celsias is also developing a sister website to the blog, and intends to build an online community of millions who can, by undertaking small activities individually, help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and global warming by acting together as a group.

The Celsias website will enable a business, community group, school or individual to take action that will reduce greenhouse gases, while participating in a fun but challenging experience. Lewis says, "In effect, we will reward you to save the planet."
