Mid Week Depression Will Move Up From South

Mid Week Depression

MetService meteorologists have issued heavy rain warnings for Westland, Buller, Northwest Nelson, Richmond ranges, Marlborough, Tararua and Mount Taranaki, and severe gale warnings for northerly winds in Marlborough, Wellington, South Wairarapa and Taranaki.

"The weekly wet weather cycle has now shifted into mid week", commented MetService Weather Ambassador, Bob McDavitt. "A front has stalled over central areas and a depression formed near Sydney over the weekend. On Tuesday the depression will move along this front and cross the central South Island bringing widespread wind and rain."

McDavitt added that this depression is likely to be followed by further unsettled weather. "On Wednesday the rain band should cross the North Island and an unseasonably cold southerly wind may bring some fresh snow to the southern South Island hills. Showery conditions are forecast to continue over most places on Thursday and not start clearing until Friday."
