World experts on the mysterious and the serious come together at Science Festival
Cataclysmic climate change and colossal squid are just two of the topics featuring at the New Zealand International
Science Festival, in Dunedin from 1-9 July 2006.
Global climate change expert Professor Will Steffen is making a special one-off appearance in Dunedin to present the
facts on the pressing issue of climate change.
A former Director of the International Geosphere Biosphere Programme (IGBP) based in Sweden (Stockholm), and current
Director of the Centre for Resource and Environmental Studies at the Australian National University, Australia,
Professor Will Steffen suggests cataclysmic climate change on earth is a real possibility.
His presentation "Global Change: where on Earth are we going?" is at the Scenic Circle Southern Cross Hotel, Princes
Street, Dunedin, starting at 6pm on Thursday 6 July.
For those who want to know what lies under the waves out there in the big wide ocean, world expert on Colossal Squid Dr
Steve O'Shea is one person you won't want to miss.
In his presentation "Aliens of the Deep", marine biologist and world squid expert Dr Steve O'Shea will captivate the
audience with his first hand experience of the mysterious and elusive colossal squid.
"Aliens of the Deep" will be presented on Monday 3 July, 5.30pm-6.30pm, at the Hutton Theatre, Otago Museum, 419 Great
King Street, Dunedin.
