New Line Of Integrated Security Appliances

Symantec Introduces New Line Of Cost-effective Integrated Security Appliances

Symantec Gateway Security 1600 Series Appliances Deliver

Affordable, Robust Security

Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC) today announced the Symantec Gateway Security 1600 Series, easy-to-manage, multi-function integrated security appliances designed to provide customers comprehensive threat protection against emerging threats. Symantec Gateway Security 1600 Series is devised to save customers valuable time and money by offering easy-to-use functionality that is ideal for smaller sites. Powered by Symantec’s award-winning technologies, Symantec Gateway Security 1600 Series delivers an integrated unified threat management (UTM) offering that can be centrally managed to protect medium sized businesses and remote and branch offices of large organisations.

Symantec Gateway Security 1600 Series appliances incorporate Symantec Gateway Security v3.0 software to provide eight essential security functions for maximum effectiveness, while reducing the complexity of security management. Symantec Gateway Security 1600 Series tightly integrates anti-spam, antivirus, anti-spyware, clientless SSL and IPSec VPN, full-inspection firewall, intrusion prevention, intrusion detection and both dynamic document review and URL list-based content filtering technologies to provide proactive, zero-day protection against today’s complex internet threats.

Symantec Gateway Security 1600 Series reduces acquisition and installation costs by integrating market-leading security functions from one vendor into a single appliance. Each system provides robust management functionality that includes configuration, event logging and alerting and detailed textual or graphical reporting. Optional capabilities are available that allow customers to gain global visibility and control through centralised policy management and event correlation for Symantec Gateway Security appliances in their networks. Customers are provided the ability to efficiently analyse and act on malicious activity.

Symantec Gateway Security 1600 Series provides comprehensive content filtering capabilities through its support for URL-based list filters with Symantec’s patented Dynamic Document Review (DDR) technology. DDR prevents employees from accessing objectionable content by allowing administrators to define context sensitive word relationships.

An ongoing problem IT administrators face today is ensuring the security and integrity of desktop and remote PCs. Symantec Gateway Security 1600 Series offers client compliance functionality that allows customers to enforce policies over systems connecting remotely via IPSec or Clientless SSL VPN. Prior to allowing access to a trusted network, remote users’ systems are scanned to determine if the appropriate security protections (antivirus definitions, security engines, intrusion detection signatures, firewall) are up-to-date and working properly.

“Smaller sites often do not have the resources and financial means to deploy the integrated security technologies necessary to protect themselves from today’s complex internet threats,” said Rogan Mallon, principal systems engineer, Symantec Corp. “Symantec Gateway Security 1600 Series provides small to medium enterprises and branch offices affordable, scalable, multi-function security in one centrally managed appliance.”

Customers of Symantec Gateway Security 1600 Series are offered a wide range of centralised management and reporting capabilities through the Symantec Gateway Security Advanced Manager 3.0 appliance.
