NZ's RoamAD Driving Wi-Fi Mesh Take-up in Europe

HiTel and RoamAD have signed an OEM deal whereby HiTel has licensed RoamAD’s market leading wireless networking software platform for Wi-Fi mesh networks in Europe.

HiTel Italia has already integrated RoamAD’s software platform into its multi-radio nodes manufactured for European muni Wi-Fi mesh networks.

Ozzano, Italy—November 21, 2005—HiTel Italia S.p.A., a leading European based supplier of innovative telecommunications systems, and RoamAD, the leading supplier of carrier grade wireless software for citywide Wi-Fi networks, today announced an OEM partnership to address the rapidly growing demand for metro Wi-Fi mesh solutions in the European market.

HiTel is already selling RoamAD based metro Wi-Fi systems specifically for the European market. HiTel expects to be able to announce its first metro Wi-Fi deployment in Europe within the next 30 days.

“European demand for city-wide Wi-Fi is about to explode,” said Patrick Scarlata, Managing Director, HiTel. “We are working on projects to provide Wi-Fi services for public transportation systems, small communities, and inner city commercial and residential districts,” he added.

Commenting on the growing presence of metro Wi-Fi in Europe Mr Scarlata said, “As European carriers and ISPs are developing a better understanding of the capabilities of large-scale Wi-Fi networks, they are increasingly demanding mobile VoIP/VoWiFi as well as mobile data as core requirements on their networks. We are therefore pleased to be partnering with RoamAD, the leader in mobile Wi-Fi network technology.”

About HiTel

Hitel is one of the leading European manufacturers of telecommunications equipment for incumbent telcos, with a worldwide commercial footprint. In addition to its complete offering of corded and DECT phones well known for their innovative design, HiTel’s international brand awareness is certainly due to its revolutionary PSTN Videophone, designed and manufactured for Telecom Italia. In 2003, HiTel was the first company in Italy to demonstrate, with the Graffignano project, how Wi-Fi could be used to narrow the digital divide for towns and areas lacking broadband connections.

RoamAD was the natural choice for HiTel’s plans, as RoamAD’s unique mesh network software platform and design exactly met all of HiTel’s expectations. That is, the ability to build carrier grade, radio-agnostic wireless broadband networks for municipalities and areas where fibre or ADSL connectivity is not economically viable.
