Smartjack™ Flying High With US Patent
Phitek’s Successful Noise Cancellation Product Granted US Patent

Auckland, 20 September 2005 – New Zealand-based global leader in advanced audio solutions Phitek Systems is pleased to report that it has been granted a patent for its highly successful SmartJack™ noise cancellation technology in the United States.

Phitek expects to receive further patents worldwide further cementing this technology as the default industry standard for integrated noise cancellation on board commercial passenger aircraft.

Mark Donaldson, CEO of Phitek Systems says Phitek is delighted to receive the patent from the US Patent and Trade Mark Office (USPTO) which recognises the inventiveness of SmartJack’s™ Active Noise Rejection™ technology, which has seen phenomenal success in the marketplace.

“There are now more than 20,000 passenger seats installed with a SmartJack™Active Noise Rejection™ capability and the customer list boasts many of the world’s leading commercial airlines, including Qantas, Air New Zealand, Emirates, Qatar, British Airways, Lufthansa and Singapore Airlines. We are also pleased that the Airbus A380 demonstration aircraft is now flying with SmartJack™ technology, supplied through Panasonic Aviation Corporation.”

Donaldson says that the US patent for Phitek’s multifunctional headphone jack is also an achievement because the USPTO must be completely satisfied that the invention is new and non-obvious.

“In general it isn’t easy to obtain a US patent so this grant also reflects the leading edge nature of Phitek’s technology.”

“Equally, Phitek is thrilled that a number of the world’s leading headphone companies continue to support SmartJack™ with the launch of new and exciting compatible headphones, providing airlines with more economical options for adopting noise cancellation on board.”

Donaldson says that SmartJack™ provides commercial airlines with numerous advantages including highly effective noise suppression, backwards compatibility with powered noise cancellation headphones, a compact form factor and price.

“In today’s competitive airline industry where every dollar counts, SmartJack™ offers airlines with a very economical path for increasing the value proposition of their in-flight entertainment experience by converting the recurring cost of expensive powered noise cancellation headphones into a one time equipment purchase.”

Phitek will be demonstrating its SmartJack™ technology in conjunction with its other headphone products at its booth (Stand No. 1416 in Hall 10) at the World Airline Entertainment Association exhibition (WAEA - www.waea.org ) in Hamburg from 20 – 23 September 2005.
