Symantec Extends The Reach Of Enterprise Linux

Symantec Extends The Reach Of Enterprise Linux With Advanced Storage Management And High Availability Solutions

Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq: SYMC) has extended its range of enterprise Linux offerings with the 4.1 version of VERITAS Storage Foundation, VERITAS Storage Foundation for Oracle RAC, VERITAS Storage Foundation Cluster File System, VERITAS Storage Foundation for Databases, VERITAS Volume Replicator and VERITAS Cluster Server. Symantec is delivering enhanced performance, greater availability, simplified storage management and 64-bit support on Linux.

“Symantec’s storage management and high availability solutions on Linux ensure us the same levels of performance, capability and production availability we’ve come to expect on UNIX, while giving us all the advantages of more choice and lower cost for Linux systems,” said Aaron Huslage, senior systems administrator at CNF Services, a leading provider of global supply chain solutions for a wide range of manufacturing, industrial, retail and government customers. “With the Storage Foundation for Linux 4.1 release, we are able to transition to 64-bit computing with the confidence that these Linux workloads will meet the mission-critical standards of our datacentre.”

With the 4.1 version, users will have the flexibility to deploy one of the industry’s leading storage management and high availability solutions on the Linux distribution, processor architecture and database that is best suited for their environment. Additionally, as organisations deploy Linux in the enterprise, they will require robust software from Symantec to manage the performance and availability of their new implementations while continuing to manage complex heterogeneous environments.

“With this release, Symantec has set a new standard for storage management and high availability in production-class Linux deployments,” said Rob Soderbery, vice president, Storage and Server Management Group, Symantec Corporation. “At the end of the day, Symantec gives users the confidence to trust their data to Linux by reducing the risks and removing the obstacles associated with deploying Linux across the enterprise.”

Leading Linux Operating System (OS) Support: The 4.1 version of Symantec solutions support the latest version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 operating systems offering users the ability to obtain all of the benefits of the Symantec stack regardless of which OS they choose.

Support for 64-bit Linux Workloads: Symantec has broadened its portfolio with the 4.1 release to add support for leading 64-bit computing architectures that include Intel’s Itanium and Xeon EM64T, and AMD Opteron. Symantec support on Linux provides users with a greater range of choice as they evaluate and/or transition to 64-bit computing architectures while protecting their existing infrastructure investments.

Industry Leading Enterprise Databases Support: Symantec delivers enhanced performance, higher availability, increased data integrity and simplified storage management capabilities that let users keep pace with their fast growing Oracle Database 10g, Oracle Database 10g with Real Application Clusters (RAC) and DB2 database environments on Linux. For Oracle Database 10g and IBM DB2 environments, the VERITAS Storage Foundation family of solutions enable system and database administrators to take advantage of the latest database features while continuing to manage their heterogeneous storage environments.
