MetService forecasting a dry third test
After several days of rain in the north, MetService meteorologists are forecasting that showers will clear away in time for the third rugby test between the LIONS and the ALL BLACKS at Eden Park on Saturday evening.
There has been between 60 and 233mm of rain over Northland over the past three days. This is the first significant dose of rain in the area this year. Eden Park has had about 25mm of rain and, according to turf manager Mark Perham, "the ground is sweet".
MetService Weather Ambassador, Bob McDavitt, commented on the cause of this prolonged period of rain. "This low-pressure system was the same one which flooded parts of Queensland last week, and its progress has been slowed by surrounding high-pressure systems. It is now fading away and there should be a change to cooler west to southwest winds on Friday and Saturday to help dry out the damp spots."
New Zealand has given this year's Lions tour more
dry weather than wet. The Wellington and Auckland mid-week
games were damp underfoot, and the first test in
Christchurch was memorably cold and wet, but the other seven
games were played in dry conditions.
