Woosh continues its network expansion
Woosh Wireless today announced it has ordered an additional 180 UMTS TDD base stations from its United States technology
partner IPWireless.
Woosh Chief Executive of Woosh Bob Smith says the additional base stations will be used to further consolidate its
network in Auckland and extend the company’s network in other centres around New Zealand.
The order is part of the company’s continued investment in network development in New Zealand, says Mr Smith.
He says Woosh is continuing to capture a significant share of new broadband customers in its area of network coverage.
In February the company announced it had 10,000 customers.
“Customer response to our UMTS TDD-powered portable broadband network has been extremely positive,” he says.
“Customer surveys continue to show high levels of customer satisfaction. Our expansion plans ensure that we will be able
to continue to achieve the levels of success enjoyed to date while we bring additional service to new and existing
markets.”
Chris Gilbert, chief executive officer, IPWireless, says that in 2003 Woosh became the first company in the world to
deploy a major commercial UMTS TDD network and it continues to be a leader in mobile broadband services industry.
