Monitors range receives multiple design awards
Philips’ innovative monitors range receives multiple design awards in Asia.
Taipei, Taiwan – Philips’ innovative design approach has been recognized with three G-Mark Awards (Good Design Awards), the prestigious design awards from Asia.
Philips TFT LCD monitor X-Line for Consumer product range, 170X5 and 190X5 has received two Good Design Awards – one from the JIDPO (Japanese Industrial Design Promotion Organization) and the other one from the TDC (Taiwan Design Centre) – that also awarded the 19-inch Philips TFT LCD monitor, 190B5, for business use.
The G-Mark Awards focus on selecting products that respond to the characteristics of good design. The awards carefully evaluate the product’s innovative approach in terms of aesthetics, materials, production modes; its capacity to meet the user’s needs and to solve all issues related to usability; its potential longevity and sustainable approach to product development; its ability to respond to social and cultural values.
“We are delighted with the results acknowledging that design and performance count,” says Daphne Flynn, Director of the Philips Design Taipei studio. “Being recognized in Japan and Taiwan is a great honor for a European company and it confirms, once again, the global approach of our design work, our user focus and innovative outlook.”
About the
awarded Philips products
The Philips X-Line was
specifically developed as a home-oriented product and
designed with people and their homes in mind. Classic modern
furniture cues were used as inspiration in creating an
integral and clean walk around design that is emotive,
targeting consumers who look for a life-style companion
rather than a performance tool. The monitor is extremely
sleek, appearing as a clean surface rather than a piece of
hardware. The monitor’s position can be adjusted using the
full tilt base, thus responding to ergonomic requirements.
The color designation of the back and cable cover creates a
visually integrated, fresh and furniture-like aesthetic –
enriched by the presence of a built-in CableGuide that helps
the user keep cables in order and the space surrounding the
monitor neat and tidy. The monitor’s aluminium die cast
pedestal neatly folds for transportation and the overall
profile of the product is kept to a minimum through a clever
hinge placement.
Ease of use is an important criteria in transforming a product which is normally associated with the work environment to one for the home. Apart from the unique style, the points of interaction of the X-Line were simplified by separating the frequently used controls from those that are less frequently used. The controls of the featured SmartTouch technology are positioned on the monitor’s front panel and glow when activated by the lightest touch, both intuitive and easy to use. Responding to people’s concerns about responsible energy use and ensuring electronics are off when not in use, the power button is placed in a very accessible position, so everyone in the family can easily use it without upsetting any settings.
The 19-inch TFT LCD SXGA monitor, 190B5, is geared towards performance within a business environment. Its outstanding front screen performance allows a wide viewing angle for extra efficiency and information sharing, as well as a fast response time for handling fast moving images. Clutter is minimized thanks to the built-in audio speakers and the embedded power supply. Ergonomics and usability are enhanced by the extreme flexibility of the screen that allows tilt and swivel adjustment and adjustable height to get to the best viewing angle.
