Woody Weed gone missing

A New Zealand-wide search is underway today for the loveable national Weedbusters mascot, Woody Weed, gone missing en route between promotional commitments for the Weedbusters programme.

Weedbusters national co-ordinator Amber Bill said today Woody was last seen at a Department of Conservation wetlands restoration workshop at Greymouth.

“Woody was heading to Marton, two hours drive north of Wellington, where he was to attend an inspirational garden tour around Rangitikei. Woody was also to assist the Horizons-Manawatu Regional Council in a plants information programme for gardeners.

“Woody was being couriered to Marton, but has gone missing en route,” Ms Bill said. “The courier company has checked all its depots, but so far no joy.”

Woody Weed has become one of New Zealand’s most popular mascots, after being introduced to help promote the national inter-agency weeds education and awareness programme in October last year. Since then, he has embarked on a round of non-stop commitments, visiting community events, workshops and schools regularly for Weedbusters.

Information on Woody’s whereabouts should be forwarded to local Department of Conservation offices.
