ihug offers free speed on unlimited dial up

Kiwi ISP, ihug, continues its “Internet for the masses” revolution by launching a high speed unlimited dial up plan targeting New Zealand’s 800,000 dial up users. The new offer, free for subscribers of ihug’s unlimited dial up service, closes the gap between dial up and Jetstream, letting ihug’s dial up customers surf the internet up to 5 times faster with a ‘near-broadband experience.’

“The new offering means there are no data limits to worry about, no modem or other hardware upgrade required, no additional connection fee and no separate line to pay for,” says ihug General Manager Sales and Marketing, Duncan Shand. “It’s clear evidence that ihug continues to be what it always was, a highly independent and creative ISP bringing innovative product offerings to the mass market.”

ihug trialled the high speed service in November 2003. “Since then, thousands of customers have used it and enjoyed a better web surfing experience,” says Shand. “We’re now including the technology in our unlimited dial up plan at no extra charge.”

ihug’s Unlimited Dial Up plan includes free virus and junk mail filtering, as well as acceleration for $27.95. The Dial Up Accelerator can be added to other hourly dial up plans for $4.95 per month. ihug also has recently released an Internet Call Waiting service allowing customers to receive incoming phone calls when they are on line. It costs $4.95 per month and requires Telecom’s ‘divert when busy’ service ($3.95 per month).

“It’s all is part of a continuing campaign,” says Shand. “Broadband is the next target in our sights.”
