CUPERTINO, Calif. – 20 January, 2004 – Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq:SYMC), the world leader in Internet security, today announced the appointment of Thomas W. Kendra as senior vice president of worldwide sales. Kendra will be responsible for providing sales leadership to the company’s four regions: Asia Pacific; Europe, Middle East and Africa; Japan; and the Americas. He succeeds Dieter Giesbrecht who has been named head of Symantec’s Enterprise Administration business unit.

Kendra joins Symantec after a 26-year career at IBM, where he was most recently responsible for worldwide competitive sales. From 1999 to 2001, Kendra lived in Tokyo, where he was responsible for IBM’s software business in Asia Pacific including sales, services, and channel operations. He assumed that job after a very successful run as the Vice President of Sales and Marketing for IBM’s Database Division.

“Over the past few years, Symantec has been evolving from transaction selling to building long-term customer relationships as the company moved from providing point products to enterprise-wide security solutions,” said John Schwarz, Symantec president and chief operating officer. “Tom’s global sales experience, along with his enterprise background in leading multi-billion dollar sales organisations, will help us continue to align our company to best meet the needs of our diverse customers and channel partners.”
