Tabloid Website Says Goodbye To Nz

TABLOID WEBSITE SAYS GOODBYE TO NZ

22 October 2003 Press Release For immediate release

The New Zealand branch of nztabloid.com, New Zealand's first tabloid website has today announced it will close its doors.

Spokesman Jonathan Marshall has paid tribute to more than 1,000,000 people who have visited the website since its launch in August.

Despite the website being the target of comments by celebrities who have labelled it as a website "full of lies", only one High Court injunction has been successfully filed against it and no court proceedings lodged.

Mr Marshall and co-founder David Herkt have both thanked those who have contributed to the website and supported it by their visits.

"It achieved its original purpose", says Marshall, "and it focused attention on the type of media New Zealand experiences. It was responsible for a change in perceptions, particularly where celebrity culture is concerned".

Marshall said the consequences of the website were observable in changes in reporting style for a variety of media including such programs as Holmes, and in TVNZ's blanket-ban on current-affairs staffers and presenters accepting money for magazine stories.

Both men say they will now focus their separate energies on other pursuits.
