Kiwi Ingenuity Taking on the World

Press Release

Kiwi Ingenuity Taking on the World

After less than three years in business a small New Zealand company is taking on the world, their weapon – bovine colostrum.

Functional Nutraceuticals, based in Morrinsville, is the brainchild of Trevor Lock. Formerly a scientist with NZMP, Lock was instrumental in developing a process for spray-drying colostrum, which meant it could be used in a range of health formulations.

Apart from providing protection to infants, significant research now shows the beneficial effects of colostrum and its application in both dietary supplements and skin care.

Lock recognised opportunities the spray-drying process presented, and set up Functional Nutraceuticals. Over the past year they have had phenomenal growth of 700 per cent, and they are on target for a similar increase this year.

Ninety nine per cent of Functional Nutraceuticals’ products are exported. Despite this, they are committed to their local community, and have recently moved into larger premises to ensure they can stay in Morrinsville as they continue to expand.

It’s little wonder they have started winning Business Awards. Functional Nutraceuticals picked up three awards at the Matamata-Piako Business Awards earlier this week, including overall winner of the Innovative Technology category and supreme award for the Business of the Year.

The judges’ decision was unanimous, and they described Functional Nutraceuticals as ‘outstanding, innovative and progressive’. In relation to their rate of growth, the judges said ‘this company is like a formula one racing car’. It’s qualities like these that will see another successful kiwi company take on the world.

Functional Nutraceuticals’ focus is now on new product development, with the most recent development being a unique range of skin care products that care for you from the inside out. While Asia is the prime market for this range, it will also be on health store and pharmacy shelves in New Zealand early next year.
