Mobile phone stockmarket data service launched
Sydney based stockmarket data provider Iguana2 today announced the launch of a new web-based stockmarket investor information service – SMSQuotes.
Located at http:// http://www.smsquotes.com.au, SMSQuotes is an alert service that sends realtime ASX and NZSE stock quotes to users’ mobile phones and email accounts.
SMSQuotes offers two options – Time Alerts and Event Alerts.
Time Alerts enable up to ten real-time stock quotes to be sent in one SMS message at certain user-specified times of the day.
Event Alerts allow the user to set certain conditions for individual stocks. For example, users can be informed when Telstra hits a specified price point in the market.
“SMSQuotes will provide Australasian investors the freedom to be kept informed of what’s happening in the market, without being chained to their desk or computer,” SMSQuotes business manager Ben Dutton says.
Mr Dutton says the time was ripe for a service like SMSQuotes to be launched in Australia and New Zealand. “We wanted to capitalise on Iguana2’s experience in designing stockmarket information websites and use our technology in the wireless world,” he says. “SMSQuotes offers a unique approach for delivering stockmarket data to mobile phones.”
SMSQuotes has differentiated itself from other offerings by designing a specifically tailored service for investors. Users are given a wide variety of alert options, all quotes are sent in “real-time” as opposed to twenty minutes delayed, the user interface is easy to navigate and the system flexible enough to make best use of the 160 character SMS limit.
“We see SMSQuotes as being especially useful for company management,” Mr Dutton says. “Many executives wish to know their company’s current stock price, but have busy schedules. A service like SMSQuotes enables the latest price to be sent to their mobile phone at whatever times of the day they specify. Indeed, with this service, any interested investor is always kept in the loop.”
SMSQuotes is also available for other websites and stockbrokers through a whitelabelled version. Stockbroker TD Waterhouse is already using an adapted version of the service on its website.
Mr Dutton says he expects a strong interest in SMSQuotes from stockmarket investors. “With the current interest and a growing market in wireless information and trading we believe SMSQuotes will be warmly welcomed by investors in Australasia.”
