Oracle Delivers Personalised Java Development Tool

Oracle Delivers Industry's First Personalised Java Development Tool

Oracle Corp. (Nasdaq: ORCL), the world's largest enterprise software company, today announced the delivery of the latest version of its industry leading Java Integrated Development Environment (IDE) -- Oracle9i JDeveloper Version 9.0.3. Bringing Java development to the next level of productivity, this new release of Oracle9i JDeveloper features four major areas of enhancement: full support for the latest J2EE 1.3 specifications; enhanced web services support; built-in integration with open-source tools; and the new MyJDeveloper Extension Manager -- a unique feature which allows developers to personalize the development environment to meet their exact project needs. Developers can immediately download the new tool directly from Oracle's online developer community, Oracle Technology Network (OTN).

"As a frequent user of open source Apache Struts and Oracle's Java IDE, I welcome the new release of Oracle9i JDeveloper," said James Holmes, IT consultant and OTN developer. "With the Struts wizards in Oracle9i JDeveloper, I save development time and can build applications on my own terms -- it's really the best of both worlds."

** Built-in Integration with Open Source Software The new version of Oracle9i JDeveloper allows developers to take advantage of the most popular open source software, including Apache Ant, Jakarta Struts, JUnit and CVS, directly from within the core Oracle9i JDeveloper IDE. This integration was built using the Oracle9i JDeveloper Extension Software Development Kit (SDK) -- a set of standards-based Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) for extending the core IDE with third party tools.

** Industry's First Personalised Java IDE With the new MyJDeveloper Extension Manager, developers can now tailor their Java development environment according to the type of application they are building as well as their development style and skill level. The Extension Manager allows developers to simply enable or disable product extensions and functionality to suit their exact development requirements. Additionally, using the new Extension Manager, product extensions and updates can now be downloaded and installed directly from Oracle Technology Network as they become available.

** Enhanced Web Services Support With this latest release, Oracle9i JDeveloper has integrated J2EE and Web services development to optimize Java development productivity. Developers can now rapidly create business logic in Java or PL/SQL using Java classes, database stored procedures or Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) and expose them as Web services -- all within the same tool. The new release also introduces new testing tools for Web services development, including the integrated TCP Packet Monitor to debug SOAP messages. With Oracle9i JDeveloper the entire development life cycle of Web services is now supported, including visual development, creation, publishing, UDDI discovery, testing and debugging, as well as interoperability with .NET Web services.

** Complete J2EE 1.3 Standards Support The new release of Oracle9i JDeveloper demonstrates Oracle's commitment to the latest J2EE and Web services standards with full support for the complete J2EE 1.3 specifications. Now developers can take advantage of the first built-in Unified Modeling Language (UML) modeling and generation support for EJB 2.0 including sessions beans, entity beans and message driven beans. "The new Oracle9i JDeveloper is unmatched with its unique ability to allow developers to build their own Java IDE," said Bill Dwight, vice president, Application Development Tools at Oracle. "With this release, Oracle is providing the productivity that Java developers really want, as demonstrated by the high demand for the preview of this new release -- downloaded by nearly 20,000 OTN developers in just one month."

** About Oracle9i JDeveloper With full support for open-standards development on any operating system, Oracle9i JDeveloper provides complete development life-cycle support for Java developers creating J2EE applications and Web services. Oracle9i JDeveloper offers built-in features for optimizing the performance of Java applications while providing a single Integrated Development Environment for Java, XML and SQL; business intelligence; UML modeling and J2EE Web services.

** Pricing and Availability Oracle9i JDeveloper is immediately available for free download and evaluation from OTN and can be purchased for US $995 per named user.
