Superbit™ - the Supernova of DVDs
The most advanced DVD technology hits New Zealand shelves today
Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment has introduced the latest in DVD technology to New Zealand with The Superbit™ Collection, a DVD range which breaks the boundaries on digital picture and sound quality.
The launch of The Superbit™ Collection today not only sets a new benchmark in high resolution DVD image and sound - it signals a new era in home entertainment by giving consumers a choice in the standard of their DVD purchase.
Keith Simnor, National Sales and Marketing Manager for Columbia TriStar (NZ) Ltd, says Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment is the first studio to create a dedicated DVD product line featuring an increased bit rate as well as DTS sound.
“If you think of a DVD as a fully loaded luxury automobile, The Superbit™ Collection is like a Formula One race car, built for pure performance and exhilaration! It’s fantastic to be able to offer consumers a choice in the standard of DVD they purchase,” says Keith.
Current DVDs on the market are encoded to optimise space for the movie feature, plus value-added content - additional features and audio streams such as star interviews, out-takes, behind-the-scenes features and commentaries.
Superbit™ technology converts the physical disc space used for the feature - and that usually reserved for the value-added components - to a higher bit rate video transfer and both Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS audio. By keeping solely to the movie presentation and reallocating the extra space, Superbit™ DVDs can be encoded at double their normal bit rate.
The end result is pure picture and sound without limitations - and Superbit™ DVDs play on all DVD players.
“You don’t need top-of-the-range gear to play a Superbit DVD, but dedicated DVD fans with the latest gear are going to be completely blown away – it really is pure pumped-up DVD audio and video with no limitations,” says Keith.
Under Columbia TriStar’s relationship with the Sony Pictures Entertainment Company, The Superbit™ Collection will launch exclusively through the Sony Style Stores in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
The initial titles in The Superbit™ Collection are Hollow Man, The Patriot, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, The Fifth Element and Vertical Limit. For more information visit the Sony Style Store website at http:// http://www.sonystyle.co.nz.
