ACC WINS BUSINESS EXCELLENCE STUDY AWARD
ACC Healthwise has won the business section of the 2002 Performance Excellence Study Awards.
Healthwise is the division within ACC responsible for purchasing the treatment and rehabilitation services provided by
health practitioners and for developing related policy.
The Performance Excellence Study Awards were launched in 1992 to encourage high performance in New Zealand
organisations, and uses the internationally recognised Baldrige Performance Excellence Criteria.
The criteria provides a framework for assessing an organisation’s performance in seven categories: leadership, strategic
planning, customer and market focus, information and analysis, human resource focus, process management and business
results.
It is the second major business award ACC has won this year. In June its internal WorkSafe programme won the HR Magazine
Initiative of the Year Award, the first time the award was presented to an organisation outside the United States.
Healthwise general manager Dr David Rankin said his division had adopted the Baldrige criteria two years ago to ensure
Healthwise helped ACC claimants to receive the best-possible treatment and rehabilitation.
“We are continually encouraging health care providers to perform to an excellent standard in the care that they give
claimants. We believe it is important that we also demonstrate a commitment to excellence,” Dr Rankin said.
“All of my staff are involved in the business excellence work and it is a great acknowledgement of their performance.
Although we are delighted to have won this award, we recognise it is only a beginning in our journey towards innovation,
learning and valuing our staff.”
The study award entitles two staff members to make a 10-day study tour of the United States to visit previous Baldrige
Award winners.
The awards, sponsored by the Ministry for the Environment, Air New Zealand and Business Excellence NZ, will be presented
by Environment Minister Marian Hobbs in a ceremony at Parliament in October.
