New CEO for HortResearch
Paul McGilvary has been appointed Chief Executive of HortResearch. He takes up the position on 19 August.
He comes to HortResearch from NZMP, the food ingredients subsidiary of Fonterra, where he was Managing Director in Europe, with previous experience as General Manager in the same company in Australia, Germany and Russia. Before that he was Business Development Manager with Works and Development Services Corporation and from 1981 to 1984 he was Manager, Financial Analysis for Toyota New Zealand.
He said there is high potential for New Zealand's horticulture and related industries, with the challenge to further grow HortResearch off an already excellent science base.
"I am a passionate New Zealander and want to work for a New Zealand company. I believe in New Zealand's knowledge industry capability and want to be part of that," said Mr McGilvary.
With a sound background in strategic planning, business planning, budgeting and resourcing in companies with revenues that have exceeded US$350 million, he has a good background to understand the needs of a research and development company such as HortResearch.
Mr McGilvary has a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration with Honours from Victoria University majoring in economics and he also attended the Senior Executive Programme at Stanford University in 1997.
