Scotland's Leading Legal Firm Courted By NZ
SCOTLAND'S LEADING LEGAL FIRM COURTED BY NZ SOFTWARE
DEVELOPER
Leading Scottish commercial law firm Shepherd+ Wedderburn, is reaping new rewards from increased efficiency and better management of its resources after investing in a state-of-the-art digital dictation system. Its adoption of WinScribe technology makes Shepherd+ Wedderburn commitment one of the biggest deals of its kind in the Scottish legal sector.
WinScribe is the Internet-based digital dictation and workflow management solution developed by New Zealand Software Developer WinScribe Inc. - a world leader in this field. The Auckland based company has experienced rapid growth with its overseas expansion, its business growing by over 100% within the last 6 months. The company was one of the first to integrate telephone dictation and the data network, giving users the ability to access and perform dictation from both a desktop PC and a touch-tone telephone. Today, WinScribe has developed the next generation of digital dictation software to harness the power of the Internet by providing web-based dictation tools.
The Shepherd+ Wedderburn deployment is a good example of how the WinScribe solution is implemented across a large, complex corporate environment. As the system is rolled out, priority is being given to lawyers in split teams who are required to work from remote stations or move frequently between the firm's Edinburgh, Glasgow and London offices. They can dictate by phone or via the Internet, and secretaries at different locations can pick up the work. Further flexibility is provided through the ability for fast and efficient editing of files and review of past projects. Secretaries, meanwhile, benefit from previously unavailable sound clarity. WinScribe is particularly resilient, so dictation will not be lost if a user's PC contact with the network is lost. Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption technology makes data unreadable to any person or group trying to intercept a transmission. The end result is faster delivery to the client - and greater client satisfaction.
Shepherd+ Wedderburn's IT director Angus MacKenzie was already aware of the increased efficiency which digital dictation could bring, having installed a pilot digital system in the firm's Glasgow office. However, when the number of faults affecting the firm's magnetic tape system started to approach unacceptable levels, he had to make the decision whether to renew the conventional system or seek an alternative. "The response has been excellent - lawyers are taking to it like ducks to water and there is some healthy competition over who should have priority use," he said. "Lawyers get faster and more accurate service and secretaries are able to manage their time efficiently."
The implementation of WinScribe in this case, demonstrates how powerful technology and the ease of integration can result in greater efficiency and user enthusiasm. "Naturally we are delighted that WinScribe is proving to be so successful for Shepherd+ Wedderburn" says Colin Steeples, International Product Manager for WinScribe Inc.
WinScribe Inc. has an increasing presence in the overseas market, with WinScribe's products now being marketed in 15 countries supported by over 100 Resellers.
