Deadline For Public Submissions For '.maori.nz'

May 28 2002

Time is running out for public submissions on the proposal to create a new second level domain, '.maori.nz'. "Public submissions close at 1700 on June 5th ", said Society Executive Director, Sue Leader. "We are receiving a steady flow of submissions, as interest in '.maori.nz' is high," she said.

"The proposal has already passed the first threshold by gaining 91.7% support in a non-binding straw poll held earlier this year", Leader said. "There have been no new second level domains created since 1995, so for this proposal to have reached this stage is a landmark in the development of the Internet in New Zealand", she noted.

"The next step of the process is for the InternetNZ Council to consider the formal submissions at its June 7 meeting and then make an interim decision" Leader said. "The process for requesting expansion of second level domains requires extensive public consultation to ensure there is widespread support for any proposal, and public submissions allow Council to weigh up considered arguments from the community of interest."

For full details on the submissions process please go to:

All submissions received will be placed on the InternetNZ website.
