New “Real-Time” Publishers Research Launched

Hitwise Launches New “Real-Time” Publishers Research
5 November 2001 – Following the recent announcement that other Internet Measurement companies are closing their New Zealand offices, Hitwise today announced it is expanding its service in New Zealand.
Based on feedback from New Zealand Publishers and Agencies, Hitwise has just created a completely new “Publishers Category” that ranks the performance of major web properties. The Publishers Listing is derived from the 150,000 users a day that Hitwise monitors and it shows the traffic to a range of sites, grouped according to the particular owner or publisher of these domains.
For instance, all New Zealand traffic to worldwide eBay properties such as www.ebay.co.nz, www.ebay.co.uk, www.ebay.ca, www.ebay.de and www.ebay.com appears under eBay and includes all its domains that receive New Zealand traffic; similarly, Trader International sites such as www.autopoint.co.nz, www.loot.co.nz, etc appear under The Points (Trader International Group).
While Hitwise has always been able to show relative Internet traffic trends for individual sites, this new feature means that media strategists can also gain insights into the larger media groups and can use that data for more effective media buying.
This new feature significantly assists media strategists, as Publishers can be ranked on a daily, weekly and monthly basis against a range of criteria such as visits, page views and average session duration. With the Hitwise Charting service, strategists will be able to compare publishers over time to determine which media properties will be the optimum choice for their business.
The top 10 Online Publishers visited by New Zealanders for the week ending 3 November were: MSN, Yahoo!, xtramsn, Google, Wilson & Horton, NZCity, eBay, TVNZ, AltaVista and TradeMe Group.
Hitwise is not only expanding its service in the New Zealand market, but is also committed to providing advertising agencies, major publishers and online strategists with several other new tools over the next few months to help them develop better media plans and create alliances with a competitive edge.
