Allegro Provides Sweet Sounds To Air Travellers' Ears

Auckland, New Zealand (JULY 27 2001) – Slab DSP Limited is releasing a new analogue noise reduction system for in-flight entertainment (IFE) that they believe is the world's most sophisticated analogue noise reduction solution for in-flight entertainment.

Audio programming is an essential part of the in-flight entertainment package delivered by today’s modern IFE systems. However, noise within the aircraft cabin severely reduces the quality of this audio and has been linked with increases in passenger fatigue, stress and anxiety.

Slab DSP's Allegro™ system combines optimised analogue noise cancellation with new and advanced system features such as headset identification, real-time performance monitoring and built-in test compliance. A small and light weight noise reduction control module (NRCM), which may be installed in an aircraft seat or as part of the underseat IFE electronics box, the Allegro™ NRCM is operable with Slab DSP’s Aria™ range of analogue noise reduction headsets.

During the past few years a variety of noise cancellation headphones have been introduced for use on aircraft. In most cases these products have seen limited success due to their limited performance and high cost. Slab DSP’s Allegro™ system provides airlines with a new and economical option for delivering noise reduction functionality on their aircraft.

Allegro™ system is installed as part of the IFE system’s audio architecture eliminating the need to include expensive circuitry with each headset. It connects to an extensive range of active headset products either manufactured by Slab DSP or produced by a quality third party manufacturer under licence. In terms of system features Allegro™ provides many innovations including real-time performance monitoring to guarantee robustness, headset identification to ensure optimal performance and built-in test connection options.

In Allegro™, Slab DSP has created an effective, inexpensive end-to-end solution that will allow airlines to consider the wider deployment of noise cancellation technologies to improve the flying experience.

John Corey, Managing Director, said, “Slab DSP’s strength is innovation in noise reduction technologies and this has once again been demonstrated with the release of this system for application in avionics. We look forward to discussing the possibilities for the deployment of this technology with the airlines.”

Slab DSP will be demonstrating the Allegro™ system at this year’s WAEA (World-Airline-Entertainment-Association) conference in Brisbane, Australia in September.
