Ford Research Engineer In Top 5% Of Nations Scholars

Ford Research Engineer Tim Loughnane has been recognised as one of the top 5% postgraduate researchers nationwide by the New Zealand Foundation for Research Science and Technology.

Mr. Loughnane, who has been working at Ford's Alloy Wheel Plant in Wiri during the course of his study, was presented with his award by the Minister for Research Science and Technology, Hon. Peter Hodgson, at a ceremony in Auckland last week.

His award-winning research, 'Improving Molten Metal Quality through use of Filtration Techniques,' was commended by the Foundation for its research integrity, communication of concept and impact on New Zealand industry.

Mr. Loughnane is an active member of the Research and Development group at the Alloy Wheel Plant and is currently completing a Masters degree at the University of Waikato.

He was recipient of the Foundation's highly sought after 'Technology Industry Fellowship' award in 2000, which enabled him to pursue his academic interests in metal casting and metallurgy.

Over 200 science, technology and engineering research posters were submitted to the Foundation by universities and industries across the country.

Biotech, medical, electronics, manufacturing, telecommunications, food technology, chemical, forestry and dairy were amongst some of the industries that contributed entries.
