Latest Growth In IT Jobs – Wellington Leads The Way
SEEK reports massive increase for Capital’s IT employment
Auckland - 28 February 2001 – Wellington
is on course to challenge Auckland as the centre of New
Zealand’s Information Technology industry, according to new
statistics from SEEK.co.nz, voted NZ’s best online
employment site.
Patrick Pruett, Business Development Manager for SEEK.co.nz says the latest figures show a rapid rise in IT jobs in the capital, with 716 jobs listed on the SEEK site compared to 1027 in Auckland.
“Considering that Auckland has three times the population, these statistics show that the IT employment sector is really booming in Wellington,” says Pruett.
Pruett says that the rise in IT jobs has been matched by the number of Wellingtonians signing up with SEEK to find a job.
“There are currently 4405 people in Wellington with registered ‘Job Mail Profiles’ on SEEK. This is a massive 124 per cent increase since July 2000 indicating job seekers are attracted by the constant rise in employment positions,” says Pruett.
He says another reason for the influx of jobs is the Government’s recent moves to place its agencies and administration online.
SEEK.co.nz is continuing
to experience a high level of national demand for its ‘Job
Mail Profiles’ and services with a 20 per cent increase in
visitors to the site from December to January.
“We have grown the number of jobs on the site by 837 since the second week of January, this is a 33 percent increase over the last six weeks. We expect 2001 to be a real boom year for online employment and hope to hit 100,000 monthly visitors in the near future,” he says.
