Commission to hear from environmental groups next week

Wellington - 26 January 2001: The Royal Commission on Genetic Modification will next week hear from environmental groups at its Formal Hearings.

Scheduled to make presentations in Week 9 are: 29 January 2001: 1. Pesticide Action Network 2. Safe Food Campaign 30 January 2001: 1. GE Free New Zealand (RAGE) In Food and Environment Inc 2. Nelson GE Free Awareness Group 31 January 2001: 1. National Nutritional Foods Association of New Zealand 1 February 2001: 1. Green Party of Aotearoa/New Zealand 2. Poverty Bay branch of National Beekeepers Association

Copies of the submissions and expert witnesses' briefs of evidence can be found at: www.gmcommission.govt.nz.

Members of the public are welcome to view the proceedings and transcripts of the hearings will be posted on the Commission's website.

Upcoming events:

As part of its Maori Consultation Programme, workshops will be held in Ruatoria on 1 February 2001 and in Gisborne on 2 February 2001. The East Coast regional hui will be held in Gisborne on 17 February 2001.

Formal Hearings will also be held in Auckland on 15 and 16 February 2001 and in Christchurch on 23 February 2001.

A Youth Forum will be held in Wellington on 5 March 2001. Competition and registration forms must be in by 5pm, 12 February 2001. Details available at: www.gmcommission.govt.nz or phone 04 495 9151.
