New Board Appointments At Forest Research

Published: Wed 13 Dec 2000 04:33 PM
Forest Research Chairman, Brian Armstrong today announced the appointment of two new Directors, Giff Davidson of Wellington and Nick Roberts from Nelson.
As well as his new appointment, Giff Davidson also holds Directorships of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority and Animal Control Products Ltd. Prior to his retirement in 1992, Giff worked for Shell New Zealand and was intimately involved with Shell’s forestry interests. In fact, his latest appointment sees the wheel turn full-circle — in his role at Shell, Giff was involved in the development of epoxy resins used in the first laminated beams that, coincidentally, were developed by Forest Research.
Nick Roberts is the Managing Director of Weyerhaeuser New Zealand having been appointed after Weyerhaeuser acquired Fletcher Challenge Forests (FCF) interests in the Nelson Forest Joint Venture in 1997.
Prior to taking on his present role at Weyerhaeuser, Nick was Operations Manager for Fletcher Challenge Forests, managing the Nelson/Marlborough forest estate on behalf of FCF and Institutional Investors advised by UBS Timber Investors. In addition to the forests, Weyerhaeuser New Zealand also recently purchased a sawmill in Marlborough.
Forestry is one of the major earners for New Zealand, and with continuing development and commercialisation has a very positive future. Both Giff and Nick see Forest Research as the organisation that has the base knowledge the industry needs to develop its systems and diversify its products, and to capitalise on the current opportunities.
