Enhanced problem-solving
Symantec Web Partners is a new addition to both versions of Norton SystemWorks 2001, offering consumers access to third-party online problem-solving services that are available directly from the suite’s user interface. The Symantec Web partners include Expertcity, Xdrive and PromiseMark, and provide Norton SystemWorks users with access to real-time, person-to-person computer help, as well as online file access and storage, and Internet and data related protection plans.
A key feature of Norton SystemWorks 2001 is the new One Button Checkup feature that provides users with an easy way to conduct quick system checks, identify and fix problems. Accessible from the main page, One Button Checkup addresses the most troublesome problems that can degrade system performance, including registry corruption, fragmentation levels, viruses in memory, disk space and more.
Improved system performance
Norton SystemWorks 2001 also includes several enhancements designed to increase system performance. An improved LiveUpdate feature automatically senses an open Internet connection and checks, automatically retrieves and installs any available virus definition updates to ensure users have the most up-to-date protection against malicious code. New SmartScan technology intelligently finds all files with executable code that must be scanned for viruses, eliminating the need to scan all files in the system and providing unmatched protection and performance. SmartScan significantly reduces system impact resulting from constant background monitoring for viruses in AutoProtect.
Norton SystemWorks 2001 continues to automatically scan email as it is received, detecting viruses in attachments before being accessed by the user and eliminating the risk of unknowingly forwarding the virus onto others.
Norton SystemWorks 2001 offers users the ability to run Fast & Safe from the CD, enabling them to save space by cleaning the hard drive prior to installing the suite. Once installed, Norton SystemWorks 2001 features centralised help, giving users the ability to more easily search the integrated product suite, find a feature and then fix a problem with any of the suite’s products.
Security assessment
A further new addition to the Norton SystemWorks 2001 suite is Symantec’s Security Analyser, a valuable web-based PC security assessment tool that carefully evaluates a PC’s Internet security in three key areas; susceptibility to hackers, risk of infection by a computer virus and loss of
personal information. Results provided back to users explains the security threats and offers options on how to eliminate the identified vulnerabilities.
