CLEAR Launches Lightning-Speed Wireless Internet
CLEAR Launches Lightning-Speed Wireless Internet Access
CLEAR Communications today launched CLEAR Wireless, a new service using wireless technology to provide high-speed Internet access for businesses.
The launch follows testing of the equipment - which uses the unlicensed 2.4Ghz radiofrequency band - at two sites in Hamilton. CLEAR has partnered with Marconi, a world-leading supplier of wireless technology, to install the technology.
CLEAR will roll out a wireless network in main centres throughout the country. In addition to the Hamilton sites, base stations will be established in Auckland and another North Island centre in the next couple of months.
CLEAR's Internet Access Product Manager Richard Bright says CLEAR Wireless provides cost effective Internet connectivity. The service will provide speeds up to 2Mbps for sending and receiving information via the Internet. For security, CLEAR will provide a router with a firewall at the customer's end.
The redeployable equipment can be installed quickly. The service will cost around $500 a month for unlimited access and alternative pricing plans will be available soon.
"CLEAR Wireless puts a fast dedicated Internet connection within the grasp of small and medium-sized businesses," says Mr Bright.
CLEAR's Strategic Development Manager Julia Dol says the new broadband service complements CLEAR's extensive fibre optic and wireless national network. Unlike CLEAR's LMDS (local multipoint distribution service) wireless access, CLEAR Wireless will not be used for voice traffic at this stage but other services may be looked at in future.
CLEAR Wireless is suitable for small to medium sized businesses.
