More Young Voters Call For Cannabis Law Reform
Visitors to the Prebble's Rebels web site have used an online poll to call for the legalisation of cannabis.
The site, at http://www.rebels.org.nz, runs a poll on selected issues of concern to youth. The question of 'what changes should be made to our cannabis laws?' drew an even more emphatic result than was expected.
80 people responded to the poll question, with 48% asking for cannabis to be legalised. A further 21% of respondants favoured decriminalisation, while 17% were happy with the status quo. 11% of people desired harsher penalites for cannabis offences, with a 'don't know' figure of 3%.
Rebel Webmaster, Gavin Middleton, said that the poll is an interesting and popular part of the Rebels internet site.
"These results are certainly in line with what young people are telling all the political parties. It is time that government moved on the issue of drug law reform, and eliminated victimless crimes like responsible cannabis use" Mr Middleton said.
The new poll question asks 'would you come back from overseas to live under a Labour/Alliance government?'
