Act - Politics, Not Values
Act's anti-bureaucracy & red tape policy, announced yesterday, exposes again their forked tongue," observes Libertarianz Leader Lindsay Perigo.
"Richard Prebble chose to launch it on Great Barrier Island, even though his party didn't bother sending a candidate to the Abolish Bureaucratic Crimes debate on the Island which I attended," notes Perigo. "He chose to highlight the Les Harrington story as symptomatic of the bureaucratic abuse that goes on there, even though that story was published two months ago in The Free Radical (which is where ACT MPs first read about it & they said absolutely nothing about it at the time.)
Instead, they tried to pretend that it was a story THEY had unearthed & revealed for the first time just yesterday! What's the bet that their concern for Mr Harrington will evaporate as suddenly as it gushed forth . next Sunday?!
Politics, not values.
"The RMA, passed by Labour & National," said Mr Prebble yesterday, "is an example of the badly-drafted feel-good bureaucracy that's strangling New Zealand." Quite right. But he was part of Labour when it was drawn up. His current deputy was too, & he was a rabid devotee of it. And are they now going to repeal it? Not on your Nelly! Consultants who vote for ACT make far too much money out of it! No, say ACT, they will "reform" it, without saying how. They probably mean they will support the reforms National has proposed, knowing full well those reforms mean more work for ACT-supporting consultants, leaving the essential evils of the RMA intact.
"Values, not politics? Pull the other one, Richard. Shouldn't be too hard . I have fewer legs than you have tongues."
