Chaining up the Government
If freedom is to have a place in this country, then Libertarianz' proposed constitution for New Freeland - officially released this weekend - will play an important part.
"Government," as George Washington observed, "is force." If government is to be the watchdog of our rights and not the trampler of them, then that watchdog must be chained up - must have its force restricted - lest it become our nemesis rather than our protector. This constitution is just such a chain.
"It promises," says party leader Lindsay Perigo, "a New Zealand liberated from the tyranny of this current government and all governments like it. It is a constitution that supersedes all previous constitutional documents and quasi-constitutional documents, including, mercifully, the Treaty of Waitangi. It is a constitution that places individual freedom beyond the vote, so that no matter what forms of compulsion those lying hypocrite politicians propose they'll be blown out of the water by the courts."
In short - freedom. That's what this constitution promises. Permanently.
Let the debate begin!
