Welfare, Extortion and the Treaty

ACT chairman Sir Roger Douglas and ACT Rongotai candidate Stephen Franks will be arguing that 'New Zealand is in serious trouble and it's time to do something about it.' in Seatoun this Tuesday night.

The public meeting will be held at the Seatoun Anglican Hall at 7.30pm and will be ACT's first public meeting of its Rongotai election campaign.

"The problem is too much law, and too much power with lawyers," says Franks. "And what's worse, Labour and the Alliance want to increase it."

Franks will be discussing disincentives created by government's cavalier approach to legislation and the increased power lawyers have reaped from this. He will also discuss criminals' rights and the creation of an out of control legal aid system. Franks will also talk about ACC, the Treaty of Waitangi and RMA inefficiencies.

"The Resource Management Act has become a charter for extortion by interest groups discouraging people who want to create and use their land effectively," said Franks.

ACT chairman Sir Roger Douglas will be presenting an outline of ACT's policies and visions for New Zealand in the new millennium. Topics will include welfare reform, law and order and economic truths.

ACT's first meeting in 1996 at the same venue saw a packed house, entertainment and sharp, witty dialogue. This Tuesday will be no exception.
