National Abandons Property Owners

PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

National Abandons Property Owners

"Which National Socialist are we to believe," wonders Libertarianz Spokesman Peter Cresswell, "the one blathering about 'forging a brighter future for rural people', or the one today giving cretinous councillors the authority to impose spot fines on property for 'infringements of the RMA'.

"It is clear that John Luxton and Simon Upton do not converse," he says, "for taken together their statements are frankly hypocritical. What is clear however is that the new spot-fine regime announced today further erodes property rights in this country, and continues the reversal of the burden of proof already trumpeted this week by Injustice Minister Ryall."

While Luxton tells us of the 'stifling red tape' his party is apparently cutting, Upton is putting more in place; while Luxton warns we 'forsake farmers at New Zealand's peril', his colleague is making it manifestly impossible for farmers to work their own land; while Luxton calls farmers 'good custodians of the land' his colleague threatens them with 'penalties.up to two years imprisonment or a fine of $200,000' should they annoy their local council planner.

"Let us be clear. When a local body 'enforcement officer' can walk onto your own land uninvited and unannounced, and fine you if he objects to what you are doing with it then we are in serious trouble," says Cresswell, "and no amount of ministerial blather can obscure that."
