Enslavement Call From Students

Published: Thu 30 Sep 1999 09:24 AM
"Karen Skinner and the rest of the failed Students' Association in Wellington are more concerned with enslavement and regulation than they are with emancipation and rights," said Libertarianz Spokesman Andrew Bates today.
"Like most populist career student politicians, Karen advocates 'fighting for a right to free education'. But this education doesn't grow on trees," says Auckland University Engineering/Commerce student Bates, who points out that it needs lecturers and tutors, serviced labs and air conditioned theatres. "And she claims a right to all this?" he asks.
"Ms Skinner's so-called right to a free education means this must all be provided by someone else," he says. "The bogus right she advocates effectively means the right to force another human being to work - without reward or even acknowledgement - to provide her with her bogus right. Ms Skinner is effectively demanding the Right to Enslave others!"
"One would hope university students could understand the nature of rights, and grasp the importance of rational persuasion in obtaining their values. Unfortunately her comrades at Canterbury and NZUSA are less concerned with learning, and more concerned with yearning for other people's earnings."
"I'm only glad my own Voluntary AUSA Fees won't be sponsoring any more of this Marxist drivel," concluded Bates.
