Lotto CEO David Bale - Resignation Press Release

1 September 1999

MEDIA RELEASE
LOTTERIES COMMISSION

LOTTERY CHIEF EXECUTIVE RESIGNS

In the last twelve years I have enjoyed the confidence and support of four prime ministers and seven ministers of Internal Affairs. It is obvious from her public statements that this is not the case with Mrs Shipley. I always thought that helping to create a vibrant New Zealand business which has contributed $2.1 billion to the nation's purse was a fair day's piece of work. I was mistaken. A worker should always be seen to be worth his or her salt.

Accordingly, I have tendered my resignation to the New Zealand Lotteries Commission and will work out the 90 day period as required by my contract.

I wish to thank my family, friends, the Commission and its staff for the support they have shown me. In particular I have appreciated the public support of my contribution by Mr Geoff Thompson, the Presiding Member of the Commission. Such loyalty is rare and to be treasured.

I do not propose to discuss this decision, or my remuneration package, in the media any further.
