Challenge To Read 'Secrets And Lies' Before Talking About It

Native Forest Action has today challenged people speaking in the media about Secrets and Lies to read the book before opening their mouths.

"We challenge Damien O'Connor, West Coast mayors, Barry Nicolle, Therese Gibbens and Timberlands staff to read Secrets and Lies before they slag it off anymore," says Dean Baigent-Mercer spokesperson for Native Forest Action.

"Why? They keep saying they want to argue about facts. But it is evident from their misguided comments so far reported in the media, that they aren't responding to events in the book. Responces have been to fictional claims. For example, nowhere does it say that Timberlands funds CAN."

"Secrets and Lies mainly uses the correspondence between Timberlands' staff and one of their public relations companies Shandwick NZ Ltd to explain events since Timberlands' creation. It quotes their own words and is therefore not a work of fiction."

"The accusation of Shandwick's boss Klaus Sorensen that some of the information was 'stolen' proves that it is real."

"There are some alarming revelations in Secrets and Lies about Timberlands and its PR companies, and before they say anything else they should read what they are. The book has been out for three days now, there's no excuse not to have seen it", said Mr Baigent-Mercer.

"And we also invite and urge other West Coast people who want to know what's going on: Have a look for yourselves. The information about CAN and West Coasters is in chapters 9 and 10".
