Christian Heritage Support Feminist Lobby
Christian Heritage Party candidate, Chris Salt, says the party supports efforts by feminist lobby groups to have the objectionable Rock FM billboards removed. “They are offensive to both men and women,” says Mr Salt.
The two prone men staring up at the ‘nether regions’ of a scantily clad woman with a whip are depicted as willing participants in some sort of cheap sado-masochistic event. This advert does nothing to move men away from sexual stereotyping. Worse still, women are displayed as the equally willing players in a game where they are valued only for certain parts of their anatomy.
“The Christian Heritage Party ethos is in direct conflict with anything that cheapens the value, purpose and moral character of the human spirit. This irresponsible piece of slick advertising does all of those things,” Mr Salt said. “It is a slur on the marketing profession and an offensive attack on decades of effort to highlight and overcome injustices in our society.”
Mr Salt said the Radio station’s glib response
that they were trying to appeal to young men and do not feel
the billboards are doing any harm is a lame excuse. “If we
want a more just and equitable society where everyone is
valued for who, rather than what, they are then we all have
to play a responsible part in promoting certain standards.
The Rock FM has failed miserably to uphold any sort of
socially responsible attitude. They should remove the
billboards immediately and publicly apologise,” Mr Salt
said.
