PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
"Revelations last week that the government stores blood samples from all New Zealanders born in the last thirty years should concern everyone in this country," says Libertarianz justice spokesman Bernard Darnton.
The blood samples are apparently taken at birth to test for various diseases. "This being the case, why the hell aren't the samples destroyed when these tests are complete?" asks an angry Darnton. "It is frightening to think that these samples could be used by the state to compile a complete New Zealand DNA database. We've recently seen samples used in a murder trial and in another instance - against the mother's will - to show the paternity of a dead child. Who knows what other mischievous uses unscrupulous politicians could put this information to?"
"This is far more intrusive than a national ID card and far more sinister," he storms. "The only way to stop the abuse of this kind of information is for it not to exist in the first place." Darnton calls for the immediate destruction of these samples and the information gleaned from them, adding, "I wonder what else Big Brother has been up to for the last thirty years that he's neglected to tell us about."
